Namhroodah first past the post in Valiant Stakes

Namhroodah put up a career best display when passing the post in front in the Listed Valiant Stakes at Ascot on Friday.  However, there was drama as the Stewards perceived that Namhroodah, ridden by Jamie Spencer, had interfered sufficiently with the third placed horse, Irish Rookie, that she was demoted to third place and the second past the post, Red Box, was awarded the race.

In a thrilling renewal, Namhroodah was sent to the front from the start by Spencer and she looked to have the race in safe-keeping when kicking off the bend.  However, the favourite Irish Rookie under Ryan Moore set about catching her with a challenge up the inside rail and viewers were being treated to an epic tussle when Namhroodah squeezed up Irish Rookie for a few strides – something that ultimately cost her the race.  Sir Mark Prescott’s Red Box under Luke Morris then came with a fast finish to pass the post in second position before being the lucky beneficiary of the interference as she was then promoted to first place after the Stewards’ Enquiry.

Namhroodah can be seen enjoying some rest and relaxation in the paddock and now holds an entry in the Group Three Oak Tree Stakes at Goodwood on Friday.
