Invincible Army loses out by a nose in thrilling Sandy Lane!

Invincible Army failed by just a nose to peg back Sands of Mali in the Group 2 Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock.

Always tracking the winner, Saeed Manana’s homebred colt, went in pursuit of the long-time leader and was gaining on him with every stride towards the finish but sadly the winning post came a stride too soon and after an agonising wait, the photograph result announced that Richard Fahey’s colt had prevailed by the minimum margin.

Fortunately, Invincible Army has come out of the race well and now looks forward to a rematch in the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot when hopefully a stronger early pace might improve his performance by a centimetre or so…

He still had a bit of energy left the next day when taken out for a pick of grass!
