MOUNT ATHOS STORMS TO LISTED GLORY!
Mount Athos gained a well deserved Listed victory when taking the Irish River Stakes at Deauville.
Always well placed under a cool ride from Christophe Soumillon, Mount Athos surged to the front just over a furlong from home and never looked like being caught.
Sheikh Rashid Dalmook Al Maktoum’s homebred son of Dark Angel had been Listed and Group placed but this was a well deserved first Black Type win. The victory was the yard’s third Listed win in France after Far Above’s Prix Kistena success at Deauville and Second Generation’s Prix Reves d’Or win at Vichy.
Mount Athos will return to Deauville on 4th December for the Listed Prix Luthier, a race he lost by a nose in 2023…
